I have been intending to write a blog like this for a while, I guess the thing that held me back was fear. Having spent a lot of time online I got to know a lot of lawyers, and others who use social media very well so who was I to write a blog like this?
I was reading Seth Godins book – Tribes http://www.sethgodin.com/sg/ he says “leadership is scarce because few people are willing to go through the discomfort required to lead”
Now I am not suggesting that I am going to, or want to lead a tribe. That’s not the motivation in doing this but it made me realise that the reason I haven’t done it before is because I was afraid to put my head above the parapet and risk getting shot at. If doing this encourages others to start a similar blog that can only be a good thing, the more we discuss social media the better we will know how to use it. I knew that writing a blog about social media invites people to view my online profiles and criticise or realise that I often don’t do what I suggest is good practice.
So I could hide but then that’s not the point so my online profiles are –
Twitter – motoringlawyer – http://twitter.com/#!/MotoringLawyer
Facebook – http://www.facebook.com/Motoring.Solicitor
Foursquare – http://foursquare.com/motoringlawyer
I have accounts at friend feed, digg, delicious and a few others but to be honest I don’t really use them.
So that’s me.
